5 days of exhilarating mountain bike (MTB) racing takes place at the Smithfield Mountain Bike Park starting on October 5th.
It is the third event in a world series of four. The others take place at Innsbruck (Austria), Whistler (Canada) and Rotorua (New Zealand).
The Smithfield park course runs in rainforest, over rocks and through creeks. It is steep and treacherous - a fitting test for the world's greatest MTB riders.
The world championship was held here in 2017. That is a testament to the quality and difficulty of the course.
Amateur races and for the next up-and-coming generation of riders in various age brackets for girls and boys (13-14, 15-16, 17-18 yrs) are a highlight of the festival.
The organisers expect more than 30,000 spectators over the five days. Events include Slopestyle, Downhill, Dual Slaom, Speed & Style. Pumptrack and Whip-off.
It will be televised by RedBull TV but nothing beats being there and enjoying all the other wonderful outdoor attractions that Cairns has to offer.
