The creeping tide of suburbia

I recently came across this amazing photo courtesy of Rainforest Grove Holiday Resort.

The whole of this area is now covered with houses. Moody St runs along in front of the house which no longer exists. Rainforest Grove Holiday Resort is on that site and our holiday home at 44 Moody St is on the other side of the trees.

Messing about in boats

thumb_01_sail_07Sunday sailing at The Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron, 42-48 Tingira St, Portsmith (ph: 40352685).

$20 per person per race. Meet up at 12.30 for race start at 1.30pm. No experience required. It is all about fun and learning  as you will be on a J24 with an experienced skipper. There is no better way to forget about the rest of the world for a couple of hours. Just you and the wind and the water and trying to remember all those nautical terms. Its a lot of fun for a very modest price. $5 BBQ afterwards at the clubhouse.

Cairns flowering trees

Tuesday, 06 December 2011 10:12

Spring time in North Queensland is wonderful for the flowering trees. This year we had a very short dry season broken short by the wettest October for 60 years. The wet season has not started yet but the early storms are here and Cairns is looking fantastic. Here are a few pictures of the beautiful trees of Cairns.

Etty Bay bliss

Etty Bay bliss

Etty Bay is a fabulous little hideaway 15 minutes south of Innisfail. It is a favourite beach for locals because it so unspoilt. The rainforest comes right down to the beach, the water is clear and there is safe swimming all year round thanks to the Etty Bay Life Saving club. We have just listed a lovely beachfront house on the hill overlooking the whole bay - The Old Pottery.

In the same ownership since the 1950s, the house was the family beach escape and the lower half was used as a pottery by the present owner's mother. It has been completely modernized but retained the simple charm of the basic beach shack that it was.

Take a look at the photos of The Old Pottery  and imagine your next holiday here.
